The Skinny: According to the listing, the Wyoming Hereford Ranch is "perhaps the oldest continuously operated registered livestock operation in the United States," with roots that date to the 1880s. Located on the outskirts of Cheyenne, the state capital, the WHR was once a gargantuan 60,000-acre operation. Now reduced to a small fraction of that acreage—a measly 2,952 acres—the ranch retains the historic farm buildings that once served the much larger tract. The current owners purchased what remained of the original ranch in 1978 and added an expansive, 12,000-square-foot main house to the property in 1982, along with a 22,000-square-foot indoor riding arena that also happens to include a basketball court. The remaining mineral rights are nominal, which may explain why this sizable and easily accessible tract is asking a relatively modest $10.3M.
