What Can You Rent for $3,000 a Month?

Zillow

Three grand a month is a hefty sum for most rental markets across America, but in a few major cities, it’s just the starting point.

New York City

The Big Apple, for example, is notorious for its high price of living, and Manhattan real estate is particularly steep. Upper West Side and Lower East Side home values hover around a million. Median rent prices throughout the city are $1,948 a month, although certain neighborhoods top $3,500 or more.

For $3,000 a month, you can find a variety of apartments in the city, but expect something on the smaller side if the place is located within Manhattan itself.

San Francisco

The other high-priced ‘hood is clear across the country from New York, but it boasts rent prices just as high or even higher. Currently, San Fran median rent is $3,020 and increasing 8 percent year-over-year.

Like Manhattan, San Francisco has limited space and a high demand for rentals, resulting in high premiums for tenants.

Los Angeles

Just south of San Francisco is another pricey locale. Home to the glitz and glamor of Hollywood, as well as its own number of business headquarters, Los Angeles has long been home to expensive real estate. Median home values in Los Angeles are $368,900 — jumping to over a million in some areas — with an estimated monthly rent price of $2,319.
