Only 22% of Apple Watches have shipped: Report

Most consumers who have pre-ordered the Apple Watch will likely have to wait longer than they expected.

Most who pre-ordered the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) Watch will likely have to wait longer than they expected.

Only 376,000 of the 1.7 million pre-ordered Apple Watches, about 22 percent, have shipped for delivery, Slice Intelligence, a research firm, said Sunday.

"A remaining 547,000 watches are expected to ship between April 27 and June 11; and 639,000 people will continue watch their email for word of when an additional 647,000 Apple Watches will start hitting doorsteps across the U.S.," the firm said in a report. The discrepancy in numbers has to do with the fact that many customers ordered more than one watch.

Slice Intelligence also said that about 38 percent of watch orders don't have a projected delivery date. The firm added that it expects deliveries for April, May and June to total 33 percent, 28 percent and 1 percent, respectively.

Apple did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
