Lena Dunham shook up the airwaves and popular culture’s conception of what a modern-day, 20-something woman was supposed to look and act like. Now the stage where her generation-defining career was launched is for sale: Dunham’s artist-parents’ loft in Tribeca, NY.

In her first feature film, “Tiny Furniture,” Dunham memorialized her own coming-of-age quirks inside the 3,600-square-foot residence at 16 Desbrosses St., New York, NY, 10013, now listed for $6.25 million.

The film was so well received that it earned Dunham her hit HBO series, “Girls,” and turned her into the “It” girl and model of 21st-century post-feminist, mega-neurotic urban living. The apartment helped tell that story, as Dunham’s self-professed obsessive-compulsive behaviors are startlingly juxtaposed to the calm and sleek interiors of her parents’ work-living loft.

Owned by artist/filmmaker Laurie Simmons and painter Carroll Dunham, the loft is part of a renovation project that started in 2001, when a group of investors purchased the entire building at 16 Desbrosses for $7.9 million, then had it developed into eight condos.

The Simmons/Dunham home was renovated over a three-year period, with Carroll Dunham heading the design and construction of the unit’s configuration. The loft is actually three separately deeded spaces: a sprawling duplex residence, a small duplex studio across the hall, and the large private storage room in the cellar.

The residence is currently configured as 2 bedrooms — a large studio, office, 2 full bathrooms and 2 half baths — but could easily be reconfigured into a 4-bedroom unit. There are walnut built-ins throughout the living room and powder room, cherry in the master bedroom and walk-in dressing room, poplar in the foyer and a long wall of cabinets in the massive, 40-foot-long living room.

The sleek, gourmet, eat-in kitchen contains a 6-burner Wolf stove with griddle, double oven and vented hood to the outside, a 48-inch SubZero refrigerator, Fisher & Paykel drawer dishwasher and single-slab Carrara marble countertops.
