Inside the Beverly House, Now the Country's Priciest Rental

Curbed

Beverly Hills' Beverly House originally hit the market for a whopping $165M in 2007, and was re-listed a few years later for $95M, but now, still with no takers (and a shiny new $115M ask), the mansion is also available for a staggering $600K a month. Discounting the Hamptons' stratospheric seasonal rental market (many of those properties are listed for a lump sum for three months), this estate now holds the title of the priciest rental in the country, beating out the competition by a formidable landslide.

Sited on more than three and a half acres of land, the H-shaped home was built in 1927 by architect Gordon Kaufmann and although it's been updated and expanded in recent years, the Hollywood history remains: in 1946, actress Marion Davies bought the place for her paramour, publisher William Randolph Hearst, who, despite owning many fabulous homes, chose to live his final days among the "intricately carved ceilings and paneled walls, French doors, balconies, arched ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, which overlook the famous cascading waterfalls to the pool and the Venetian columns beyond the pool house," as the brokerbabble puts it. A couple of years after Hearst's 1951 death, John F. Kennedy and Jackie O. honeymooned here; Curbed LA notes that the Beverly House starred in The Bodyguard and The Godfather, as well.

Some specifics about the interiors: 28 bedrooms, 40 bathrooms (almost a record!), a 50-foot entry hall, two projection rooms, an "Art Deco" nightclub, "herringbone parquet floors and a massive carved stone fireplace mantle from San Simeon," a gym and spa, and a "famed library with hand carved woodwork and staircase leading to second story wrap-around balcony and bookshelves." Also on the grounds: a two-bedroom apartment, a security cottage, waterfalls, a pool and pool house, original landscaping by Paul Thiene, "a lighted tennis court with indoor bar and media center," and a guest house perched atop an eight-car garage. As if those don't provide enough fodder for bragging rights, Beverly House also boasts the city's "longest private driveway." Watch the Journal's coverage here:
