ESPN sues Verizon over new cable plan
Sports network ESPN (NYSE: DIS) has sued Verizon (NYSE: VZ) for an alleged breach of contract stemming from the telecom giant's new custom cable plan. (Tweet this)
In a suit filed Monday in New York Supreme Court, the network said it is seeking damages related to the Verizon package, which allows FiOS customers to choose a smaller bundle of television channels each month. ESPN said it sought to stop Verizon from "unfairly depriving" it of "the benefits of its bargain."
"ESPN is at the forefront of embracing innovative ways to deliver high-quality content and value to consumers on multiple platforms, but that must be done in compliance with our agreements. We simply ask that Verizon abide by the terms of our contracts," ESPN said in a statement.
Verizon did not immediately respond to a request to comment on the suit.

Verizon had previously contended that the package fell within its rights. ESPN and others objected to the custom TV plan after it was announced.
The telecom company's shares were trading slightly higher on Monday.
