Ellen DeGeneres' home
With a brand-new Santa Barbara estate, an equestrian estate in Hidden Valley and another home in Beverly Hills, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi don’t really need a penthouse, do they?
That may have been the conversation that led the couple to list their penthouse in the prestigious Somerset building in Beverly Hills. The condo just hit the market for $899,000. According to property records, DeGeneres bought 200 North Swall Dr PH 53 just three years ago for $835,000. That’s a small chunk of change for someone like DeGeneres. The daytime host and comedian, along with her actress wife, just dropped $26.5 million on the Saladino Villa in Montecito. Last year, the pair sold their Hollywood Hills compound for $49 million.
DeGeneres likely bought the condo for convenience, or due to the low price point, the condo may have been a place for staff or family. (The Real Estalker blog reported on Oprah snagging a relatively modest home in Nashville, likely for staff or family.) The Somerset is situated in downtown Beverly Hills, nestled between the 90210 ZIP code’s trendy shops and eateries, with a paparazzi-proof doorman keeping an eye on visitors around the clock. The building’s amenities include a 24-hour concierge, pool, spa, gym, sun deck and valet parking.
The light-filled, corner penthouse measures 1,683 square feet and has views of “the mountains and trees.” A dramatic entry leads to an open living and dining area with fireplace and eat-in kitchen. Both of the 2 bedrooms are en-suite with full closets.
