Location: Houston, Texas
The Skinny: Completed in 2000, this 16,000-square-foot Houston mansion boasts the sort of attention to detail more familiar to century-old houses. The blueprints were penned by the local new traditionalist firm of Curtis & Wyndham, but the owners called in New York-based tastemaker Bunny Williams for the interiors. The result is a recently built megamansion that eschews the cheap feel of so many McMansions, but still crams in desirable contemporary features like a media room, expansive eat-in kitchen, an outdoor kitchen, a ridiculously opulent master suite, and a wine vault. Of course, this combination of old world craftsmanship and new school amenities was never going to come cheap. Bayou Breeze, as the 3.7-acre estate is known, is currently listed for nearly $20M.
