Builders' Show: Kohler showerhead streams music and water

Why sing in the shower a capella when you can get a full orchestra accompaniment with the push of a button. A portable speaker on Kohler's Moxie Showerhead can stream music from a smart phone, MP3 player, laptop, tablet, or other Bluetooth-enabled device from up to 32 feet away. The singing showerhead was turning heads at this week's International Builders' Show.

Just pop the speaker into the magnetic base in the center of the Kohler showerhead and activate the speaker and device for music or the news while you bathe. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers Moxie for about seven hours. Simply remove the speaker to recharge the battery with the USB cord that comes with the showerhead. The speaker can be used wirelessly in or outside the shower.

Available with water-saving 2.0 gallons-per-minute or 2.5 gpm sprayfaces, Moxie costs $199 at bath and plumbing stores and comes in white or polished chrome. While that isn't exactly cheap—and you'll have to remember to adjust the volume before you step into the shower—at least you'll never have to shower alone.

The showerheads in Consumer Reports tests, have a little less moxie but we found 10 models good enough to recommend because they produced a good shower feel and delivered water at a comfortable temperature.
