Tom Cruise lists $59 million Telluride estate

For a staggering $59 million -- the biggest price tag we can immediately recall for a Hollywood mega-star's estate, excluding the Spelling Manor -- you can own Tom Cruise's 300-acre ski property in Telluride, Colorado.

If Cruise finds a buyer willing to pay even close to that, it will positively dwarf baby billionaire Dr. Dre's $40 million purchase of the Los Angeles eco-castle that Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady built.

Cruise spent years on the design and construction of the home, finishing in about 1994, his listing agent told the Wall Street Journal (which first reported the listing). That time frame corresponds with the early years of Cruise's 1990-2001 marriage to Nicole Kidman.

The sprawling property adds up to about half a square mile, with a tangle of private trails offering "gated access into tens of thousands of acres of surrounding National Forest," the Sotheby's listing says. Majestic views are a given.

Over the 20 years he's owned the place, Cruise's Telluride neighbors have included such luminaries as Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Ralph Lauren and Oliver Stone.

His property contains both a main house and a guesthouse, totaling 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, the listing says. The bigger home has 4 bedrooms and 6 baths in almost 10,000 square feet, and the other has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths in about 1,600 square feet, according to the Journal.

He's pulling up stakes because he hasn't spent much time there lately, his listing agent told the Journal.
