Sept. 30: ‘The Flintstones’ debuted on this day in 1960

Yabba dabba doo! More than half a century ago, Hanna-Barbera's "The Flintstones" premiered on ABC-TV. Set during the Stone Age in the town of Bedrock, it featured "brilliantly appealing and organic circular ranch houses topped with pancaked granite slabs," according to Cartoon Brew's look at Flintstones architecture. Designer Ed Benedict gets the credit for the look. The images here are from a recently auctioned set of photographs; they show Hanna-Barbera reference drawings for television artists' use:
