Reese Witherspoon lists longtime family home at $14 million
Actress Reese Witherspoon is leaving behind her longtime family home in Los Angeles' Brentwood area, a property that she spend a decade assembling.
She bought the first of her three parcels in the area known as Brentwood Circle in 2003, back when she was still married to actor Ryan Phillippe. Their daughter, Ava -- who's now almost 15 and is a dead ringer for her mom circa "The Man in the Moon," when Reese was Ava's age -- was only 4 at the time, and their son, Deacon, had just been born.
Three years after Witherspoon and Phillippe bought that 5-bedroom, 6-bath house together, they announced their separation, and in 2007 they divorced.
Witherspoon kept the house, and in 2009 she bought the house next door -- to tear it down for a bigger yard. That brought the property to about two-thirds of an acre. (Click here or on a photo for a slideshow.)
Late in 2012, she bought the home on the other side of her original house, too, doubling her total lot size. She'd just given birth to Tennessee, her son with talent agent Jim Toth, whom Witherspoon married in 2011 at her ranch in Ojai, California.
Speculation abounded when she acquired the third property that she'd tear down that house, too, but a house remains on the lot.
Now she's listing the full three-parcel, 1.3-acre property at $14 million. Or she'll sell the 0.6-acre double lot for $10.5 million and the last-acquired 0.6-acre property for $3.5 million, according to Variety magazine. She's rumored to have her eye on Pacific Palisades, a neighboring L.A. neighborhood between Malibu and Santa Monica. (Side note for real estate junkies: Variety has astutely hired as its real estate editor a fellow who goes by the pseudonyms Real Estalker, Your Mama and Mark David. David is famed in real estate circles for usually dead-on scuttlebutt.)
Witherspoon must be hoping for a better outcome this time than she experienced a few months ago: She had to cut the price on her beautiful Ojai ranch by half before it sold, Zillow Blog reported in December. She lost almost $1 million on it.
