For less than $1 million, buy Ellen DeGeneres’ condo

Less than a million dollars for a celebrity home? It's true!

This Beverly Hills condo at 200 N. Swall Drive -- a corner penthouse, owned by Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, as Zillow reports and the Los Angeles Times confirms -- hit the market last week at $899,000. Built in the 1980s, it has two en suite bedrooms and a "dramatic entry gallery" ("translation: hall," the Times says) in its 1,683 square feet, not to mention what Zillow calls a "paparazzi-proof doorman." DeGeneres and De Rossi bought it in 2010 for $835,000, according to public records.

You might think they're just jumping on the celebrity bandwagon. After all, a number of celebrities have put homes on the market lately: Jodie Foster, Tom Hanks, supermodel Adriana Lima and Bruce Willis, to name a few.

But no -- if anything, DeGeneres is at the bandwagon's steering wheel. She's owned nine homes in the past decade, according to omg!, and is known to be "sort of an extreme case" even among celebrities, who tend to last about half as long in a home as most sellers. (The average seller moves every six to seven years, Beverly Hills real estate agent Ben Salem tells omg!.) Most recently, she and De Rossi reportedly spent $26.5 million on an estate in Montecito, California. "There's nothing the television star and comedian loves more than designing a house," wrote Elle Decor in a slideshow of the couple's ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains. DeGeneres herself told the magazine: "I can only change the furniture so much and I get bored. Then I need a new structure to work on."

The blandness of the Beverly Hills condo has led news outlets to speculate that this particular property -- never lived in by DeGeneres and De Rossi -- might have been used by family or staffers.
