Jennifer Lopez is moving out of Kardashian neighborhood (UPDATE)
Update, Feb. 3, 2015: Jennifer Lopez's mansion has hit the open market now; it's no longer a mere pocket listing. She's still asking $17 million -- about $1,000 per square foot.
Maybe Hidden Hills just wasn't big enough for Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.
A few months after Kardashian and husband Kanye West bought a $20 million mansion in her mom's neighborhood — a city that's also a gated community — the news is out via Variety that Lopez has pocket-listed her 3-acre, 17,000-square-foot estate about a mile away as the crow flies. The price tag is a nice, round $17 million.
Lopez and her then-husband, Marc Anthony, bought the mansion in 2010 for $8.2 million, but announced they were splitting just a year and a half later. Their divorce was finalized just this past June, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Soon after buying the mansion, Lopez embarked on an extensive renovation.
And when it was nearly done, she changed her mind and ordered a redo.
Designer Michelle Workman "had nearly completed a château-inspired house for Lopez when the singer-actress had a change of heart—she didn’t want to be locked into a classically French look," reported in its January/February 2011 issue (not online, but a slideshow is).
Instead, "Jennifer wanted to go modern and streamlined but retain the sophistication and stylishness," Workman told the magazine. The redo, reflected in the current listing photos in our slideshow, was finished in just three months.
Lopez recently became Chelsea Clinton's upstairs neighbor, buying the penthouse of a four-unit "luxury fortress" in Manhattan. NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon owns a unit there, too.
