Dec. 2: A peek at Britney Spears' house on her birthday

On this day 32 years ago -- Dec. 2, 1981 -- a little bundle of joy named Britney Spears came howling into the world.

To mark that auspicious day, we're taking a look at the house that Britney Spears bought last year in Thousand Oaks, a suburban community in the Valley outside Los Angeles.

The single-story Mediterranean-style house, built in 2010, has 8,500 square feet of living space on a double lot of about an acre and a half. She bought it from retired hockey player Russ Courtnall and his wife, Paris Vaughan, an actress and the daughter of jazz legend Sarah Vaughan. They'd listed it at $8.5 million, but the price she paid is unavailable.

With five bedrooms and seven bathrooms -- including a "grand master suite" with his-and-hers bathrooms and two walk-in closets -- plus two offices, a wine cellar, a home theater and an infinity pool, the mansion certainly has plenty to offer. We're also charmed by the mention of a "separate golf cart garage" along with the requisite five-car parking. But we find ourselves hoping that she was equally enticed by the flowery listing language, which expounded on "many interior attributes" including "superior vanishing pocket doors" before closing with a declaration that the estate is "special," "unique" -- and "emotional," punctuated by three exclamation points!!!

Well then!
