Homes used as the setting in TV shows and movies become stars in their own right. Such is the case for La Villa Contenta, an estate on the bluffs of Malibu that is on the market for $34.5 million, which includes a 1.52-acre parcel, or $75 million if you want the entire 8-acre parcel. The estate was also on the rental market this summer at $250,000 for one month’s rent. Yes, this is the price you pay to occupy coveted real estate along Malibu's shores.
La Villa Contenta is owned by real estate developer Richard E. Weintraub, president of Weintraub Financial Services Inc. and his wife, Liane. 'Curbed' reports the home has been "hired" out for several movies and TV shows, most notably HBO's "True Blood" vampire series.
According to RealEstalker, the Weintraub’s put La Villa Contenta to work for them as a rental while they traveled. Now they are reportedly building another Malibu home nearby, which could be the reason it’s for sale.
Besides the incredible expansive views overlooking the Pacific ocean, the Hearst-like opulence of the home is captured in the chandelier-ed natatorium, which features a pool, glass ceilings and walls that are reportedly lined with 500,000 seashells. It was this neoclassical-style building that was the fictional home to "True Blood's" vampire queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq (played by Evan Rachel Wood). “True Blood’s” production designer, Suzuki Ingerslev, said of the natatorium:
"After all the location scouting I have done over the years, in my opinion, nothing even comes close to the amount of detail that went into this pool house. We all just stood there and took the room in the first time we went there, and pictures don’t even begin to do it justice. The Statues, chandeliers, chair rail and ceilings are all made out of a variety of various sizes of seashells and corals. It is astounding, and we could never accomplish this on our budget, and time frame. It is truly breathtaking and exquisite."
The three-story home contains 12,045 sq ft of space, including 4 bedrooms and 8.5 baths. Other amenities include a screening room, gym, and tennis courts. In addition, there is a guest house, two maid’s quarters, loggias, expansive decks, and beautiful landscaping.See more photos of the True Blood home
