The charming house for sale in Minneapolis is more than just another turn-of-the-century classic. Called “TV’s most famous bachelorette pad” by Entertainment Weekly, the home attracts nearly as many visitors as Graceland and was used as the apartment exterior in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”
A couple who bought the home in the 1990s purchased it without realizing the draw of the place. Tour buses and tourists trekked to the house consistently — up to 30 tour buses a day in the summer, reported The New York Times.
The house is shown in the opening sequence of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and it’s where Mary Richards lived in an upstairs apartment. Her best friend Rhoda lived in an attic apartment, and landlord Phyllis occupied the main floor.
In reality, the home doesn’t have apartments, but is a 9,500-square-foot single-family home with 7 bedrooms and 6.5 baths. Although most of the home has been redone, ornate millwork, bayed rooms and leaded glass are nods to the home’s 1900 construction date.
Listed for $2.895 million, the home is located at 2104 Kenwood Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55405. According to Zillow’s mortgage calculator, a monthly payment on the home would be $10,169, assuming a 20 percent down payment on a 30-year mortgage.
