    Installing an electronic keypad lock

(Photos: The Home Depot)Schlage electronic keypad locks are a great investment for your home. You get a good level of security without having to worry about forgetting or losing keys. Perfect for front entry, side and back doors, Schlage keypad deadbolts and levers are easy to install and program. User codes can be added, changed and deleted in seconds and each lock stores up to 19 unique codes, all selected by you.

Step 1. Check the door preparation to verify that the holes are properly drilled to fit your new keypad deadbolt by using the template included in the package. If the holes do not match, visit the Schlage website to download further instructions.

Step 2. Pick up the latch. The latch is set for a 2-3/8” backset and can be adjusted to 2-3/4” with a simple twist. Insert the latch, making sure the right side is up, identified by the word “top.” Use the 3/4” mounting screws to secure the latch in place.

Step 3. Pick up the keypad assembly, locate the word “top” on the back side and locate the connector cable. The metal driver bar is located under the cable between the two screw holes. When mounting on the door, slide the metal driver bar through the installed latch and make sure the connector cable slides over the latch. Don't force the driver bar through the latch. You may need to rotate it slightly to fit.

Step 4. Align the inside plate with the driver bar so it lays flat against the interior part of the door, and use the 2” mounting screws on both sides of the driver bar to secure in place. Before tightening the screws all the way, make sure the lock is straight.

Step 5. Next, connect the wire harness with the battery.

Step 6. Connect the battery and place in its compartment; carefully tuck excess wire into the assembly.

Step 7. The final step is to place the interior cover over the mounting assembly and use the ¾” mounting screws to secure the cover in place.
