Praise the sportscar gods! BMW – after months of rumor and speculation – has released official initial power figures on the all new BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe. Check it: 430 horsepower via a twin-turbo six-cylinder, and the piece de resistance, a standard manual transmission. Yup.
It’s a clear sign that BMW is taking these new sportscars seriously. Along with some 430 ponies and a manual transmission, the M4 will be sitting pretty with a curb weight of 3,300 lbs (1,500 kgs), making it just about 176 lbs (80 kgs) lighter than its predecessor. Loads of carbon fiber in the roof, trunk and drive shaft can be credited for this weight loss.
There will definitely be a six-speed manual transmission standard. But, you can also opt for a seven-speed M DCT transmission with launch control, which we expect to be pretty nifty in itself.
So far, a lot of other details are still yet to be known on the two new sportscars. So, we’ll be waiting patiently until they take the stage at the Detroit Motor Show in 2014.
