Letting be avin' you - this rented flat has jail cell
A studio apartment in Dudley has been put up for rent with an unusual feature – a prison cell.
The former Dudley Police Station on the corner of New Street and Tower Street, which closed in 2017, has been converted into flats with one of its former features retained.
It has gone viral on social media as a result, with interest from as far afield as the USA, according to Taylors Estate Agents.
The bars are wrought iron, floor to ceiling, and lead to the flat’s bathroom.
Estate agent Charlie Tank said: “It’s amazing. As you walk in you can see there’s so much room in this studio.
“You’ve got your kitchen to one side, you’ve got enough space for a bed, living/dining room – but it all comes back to the jail cell which is a main feature.”
The bathroom comes with a three-piece shower suite, with its original tiles and light.
“What the developers tried to do was keep as many key features of the building as possible,” said Mr Tank.
He said the jail cell could easily be taken out, if a future owner did not want to keep it, but added it was something he would keep if he was buying the property.
“It’s kind of retro, the building itself is historical – it was built around the Second World War time,” he explained.
The asking price for the flat is £750 per month.
