Many sweatshops of the era were in homes like this -- often 350-square-foot tenement apartments with a bedroom at one end, a kitchen in the middle, and a parlor containing the home's only exterior window. If you ever find yourself in New York City, don't miss the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side, where you can visit real apartments fully restored down to the last historical detail, even the brand of soap on the sink ledge.
We're interested in home scenes of all kinds in our Flickr group. Join and/or submit photos at http://yhoo.it/yahoohomesflickr. We'd love to have you!
