January Jones buys a new house, lists her old one

Betty Draper is trading up.

A few days ago, "Mad Men" co-star January Jones -- who plays the ex-wife of the show's main character, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) -- listed her home of five years, in Los Angeles' trendy Los Feliz neighborhood, for about $1.5 million. If she gets that much, she'll make about a 50 percent profit over what she paid for the house, though admittedly she's put in quite a bit of remodeling work. (Our slideshow has photos of the Los Feliz house before Jones got her hands on it, as well as after.)

In short order, Trulia Luxe Living blog was also able to confirm that she'd snapped up a bigger L.A. pad, paying $1.7 million.

It's hard to miss the fact that her new digs offer a lot more family-friendly space for her son Xander, going on 3 years old. The new place has a yard that's about triple the size of the old place, with a pool and a 200-square-foot studio -- and even a zip line.

It also has about 3,300 square feet of living space, compared with her Los Feliz home's 2,200.

We suspect she'll subject her family's new home to the same remodeling that she did her Los Feliz home. There, she overhauled the kitchen and the backyard as well as remaking the fireplace in the living room.

But if she does, what look will she go for? The Wearstler-tinged Hollywood glam she introduced to the Los Feliz kitchen might suit a 1923 classic like that house -- but her new house was built just 20 years ago, and it has a decided air of modern Southern California suburbia.
