If you're a down-with-it-diyer like me, I'm sure you've come across about every home improvement tool you can imagine. Or have you? Check out some unfamiliar but very cool tools here.
We'll describe the first set of three, so you'll know what may be missing from your tool set and what to get for your next home renovation project.
Just for fun, we'll also show you another three tools that seem like they come from another planet and ask what you think they do!
Tools for special projects
Electric caulk gun. This cordless caulk and adhesive gun includes a clear barrel so you can easily see remaining material as you work. The powerful applicator delivers great pushing force for tough applications and the highest level of bead control. It even stops excess material from oozing with the release of the trigger (saves me some messy work!).
Multi-material cutting tool. The so-called EZ Shear cuts many different materials, including laminate flooring, engineered hardwood flooring, vinyl carpet tile, luxury vinyl tile, fiber cement siding, vinyl siding, roofing shingles and more (don't try paper shredding!). Mount the cutting tool on a stand, if you wish, so you can work anywhere.
Measuring wheel. This compact unit goes anywhere you need to measure up. The tool features a 5-digit, easy-read, magnified counter that measures up to 9,999 ft, 11 inches without resetting (if you care to power-walk that far ...). The 3-piece telescoping aluminum handle extends from 17 in. to 38 in. and can fit into a tool box. Use the tool for landscaping, exterior design, and construction measuring jobs.
What the heck do these things do?
OK, now put on your imagination along with your hard hat, and try to figure out what each of these tools is designed to do.
Mystery tool No. 1: Something used to construct the space station, maybe? A kitchen faucet gone terribly wrong? That thingamajig tool that comes with your kid's Swedish bicycle building kit? We're not saying. You tell us!
Mystery tool No. 2: Original iPod prototype? Generic garage door opener? Baby monitor? Beats us. What do you think?
Mystery tool No. 3: If you're thinking some sort of drill with a built-in video game, think again. Not an icky medical device, either. OK, we'll give you a hint -- this tool helps keep an eye on your work (though maybe not as much as your spouse will do).
Think you know what any of these items does for real?
I'd love to get your comments below -- the more clever the better (and probably the more accurate).
Stumped? Not to worry, we'll tell you what these tools do for a living in an upcoming post.
(Thanks to The Home Depot for sharing their product descriptions and photos and joining in the fun.)
