Dan helped us find and purchase a home Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids, MN. It was purely luck that brought us to Dan--we just happened to park in front of his office upon arriving in Grand Rapids, MN with the intent of gathering local realtor contact information from the Chamber of Commerce. We walked into his office, Lakehome.com Realty, and he was the only one there, as he had sent all of his realtors to a conference that day. He sat down with us and asked several key questions about what kind of property we were in he market for. Several things about Dan became quicky apparent to us: 1.) He has a vast knowledge of the lakes and lake properties throughout the state of Minnesota and beyond, which saved us time and miles not going to lakes we had planned to because Dan knew would not provide to type of setting we were looking for. 2.) He is not afraid to work for his clents--he doesn't take the easy road and just show what is local, convenient, and in your price range. Rather, for two and a half days, he literally drove us hundreds of miles in all directions to look at houses and lakes that he felt met our criteria, and never tried to pressure us beyond our price range. 3.) But, what really makes Dan stand out in his line of work, is his ability to listen and hear his clients' needs, wishes, and dreams. Some people pride themselves on being able to read between the lines. Dan genuinely listens to the words you say, but also hears the words you didn't say. Though it took my husband a little bit longer than me to realize it, two and a half days and hundreds of miles spent looking at multitudes of houses, ultimately, we bought the 3rd or 4th house Dan had shown us on our first day out with him. 4.) Dan is not a high pressure salesman. He does not pressure his clients into writing a purchase contract. He genuinely wants you to do what is right for you. It took us another two weeks to finally decide to write a purchase contract. 5.) Dan's knowledge of the area allows him to answer any question you pose to him. He patiently answered our many, many questions. We ended up with a property that meets our needs, wishes and dreams; 200 feet of hard sand shoreline on a premier lake with neighbors whose houses you can only see when the foliage is gone in the winter. It is located just a tenth of a mile off paved roads, yet you would swear you are in the deep woods with the most magnificent lake views. And, all of this at a price that was way more affordable than we had dared to hope for. We will retire to that home in about a year and a half, but we did just enjoy it for 10 days following closing at the end of 2012.
