Realizing the work involved, I decided maybe it would be best to go with someone. I came across several agents that were "Yes Men (and women)" Everything about the house was beautiful, everything was perfect for me, and I could feel the urge to decide right then and there. A friend of mine pointed me to the sight zillow.com On the side I saw a bunch of reviews and one was of Dick Barr. The reviews were just honest and kind. People he hadn't even closed on homes with and he maintained a kind relationship with. I sent him a message and the next day he was setting up a meeting to sit down and talk. When we sat down he gave me a lot of information and really worked on laying a foundation of getting to know me and what my expectations were. We connected on a lot of things and he was very personable. I'm pretty cautious and I felt very at ease working with him. He expressed that this process is the greatest moment for most people, that first house for our family, and stressed how important it was that he was here to facilitate that experience. After that, my girlfriend and I had no reservations about him, personable, easy going, and insightful, and he even keyed in on a lot of things about us that I didn't really notice. Through the whole process he talked with us, gave us tips, and guided us into this unknown process explaining all the obstacles we may and will encounter. We went into houses and he was honest, he found defects, he knew a lot about building codes, and he taught me a lot of what is within reasonable expectation for my abilities as far as fixing goes (I'm one of those guys that tends to bite off more than I can chew), and he was honest when he saw things that he just didn't think was right for us. After several houses, we came across one that was perfect for us. He was there for the home inspections, pest inspections, talked to us, and just really eased us through the process. We wanted the house in March, closed in May and it is mid June and we're pretty much all settled. He's an incredible guy to have on your side, he knows his job well and he's very accurate with his estimations and expectations, great foresight into potential issues and everything. Dick Barr is a can do type of agent. He can make things happen. I found him to very knowledgable and willing to help you learn the ropes. He was always responsive and I never got the impression that I was "bugging" him--even though I always seemed to have questions and called him a lot. He is exactly the person you need on your side if you are interested in foreclosures and short sales. I give him my highest recommendation and plan to contine working with him in the future.
